The Harlan County Native American Site Protection Office

HCNASP

HCNASP and the Black Wolf Clan of the Ridgetop Shawnee (BWC) have agreed to a historic partnership. The BWC, a nonprofit veteran association of the Ridgetop Shawnee Tribe of Indians, will provide the volunteer man power necessary to enforce the historic ordinance of 2006. Working with the community is required if we are going to capitalize on the purview of the 2006 ordinance. This office is managed by volunteers, so approved nonprofits must be willing to help if this office is to survive.

Folks from Harlan County might remember another Black Wolf Clan from years ago. We are NOT associated with that particular Black Wolf Clan. BWC of the Ridgetop Shawnee are a dedicated group of Veterans who are committed to helping the community and will work with the community to protect our Native American cultural resources.

Mission:

To protect and preserve Harlan County's Native American cultural resources as dictated by the Harlan County Kentucky Ordinance that was passed in the Summer of 2006 that makes digging on Native American Burial Lands owned, leased and or contracted by Harlan County illegal. It is also illegal to possess Burial Items extracted from lands owned, leased and or contracted by Harlan County. The ordinance protects and preserves all Native American Burying Lands and Burial Items on County owned, leased and or contracted lands. We are not law enforcement, we are volunteer observers and investigators that will work to preserve our Native American cultural resources. We will provide training to law enforcement and other county offices to ensure the protection of our Burying Lands and Items.
